Timeline Basics

The timeline in Production Studio is where you order and trim your clips, add captions, and place audio. Understanding the timeline helps you build edits quickly.

Main elements

  • Video track(s) — Clips (images and video) appear as blocks. Drag to reorder; trim edges to shorten or extend.
  • Caption / text track — Add text overlays and lower-third captions. Position them in time and adjust duration.
  • Audio track(s) — Music and sound effects. Place them under the video; trim or fade as needed.

Basic actions

  • Add a clip — From your library or project, drag a clip to the timeline or use “Add to timeline.” It appears at the playhead or at the end.
  • Reorder — Drag clips left or right to change sequence.
  • Trim — Drag the start or end of a clip to shorten it or reveal more.
  • Add caption — Create a text element, type your caption, and place it where you want it on the timeline. Keep captions short (e.g. 3–6 words) and in the lower-third for readability.
  • Add audio — Drag an audio asset to the audio track; trim or adjust volume as needed.

Playhead and preview

  • Move the playhead to scrub through the edit.
  • Use the preview to watch the current sequence. Check timing and caption placement before exporting.

Once you’re comfortable with the timeline, see Using Assets in Edits and Export Flow for bringing in assets and exporting the final video.
