References & Source Assets

Using reference images, Characters, and Environments helps the AI match your existing assets and keep style and identity consistent.

Reference images

In Image Lab and Video Generator you can often:

  • Upload a reference image — The model uses it for composition, style, or subject.
  • Image-to-video — Start from a still image; the model animates it.

Use clear, well-lit references when possible. The prompt still guides what the model should do (e.g. “same person, different pose” or “animate with slow push-in”).

Characters

Characters are saved identities (reference + name) you can select when generating:

  • In Image Lab — Pick a project or global character so new images keep that identity.
  • In Video Generator — Use the character so the same person appears in the clip.

Create characters in Character Generator or by saving a good result from Image Lab, then attach them to a Project so they’re available in that project’s workflow.

Environments

Environments are saved locations or backdrops. When you select an environment:

  • New images or video can use that location as context.
  • Useful for keeping the same room, exterior, or setting across a campaign or series.

Create and manage environments in your asset library and attach them to projects. See Environments in Projects for details.

Best practices

  • Use your best, clearest outputs as reference or as the base for a character/environment.
  • Keep lighting and style consistent when building a character or environment set.
  • Combine references with clear prompts so the model knows what to preserve and what to change.
